Ones To Watch: The Burning Of Rome

  • 09/23/12

  • · Music main page · New releases

The Burning of Rome are the product of a long period of convalescence when lead Adam Traub recovered from 7 operations to help a rare muscular disorder in his legs, where he played piano and guitar to pass the time, he explains;

“As a songwriter music is a therapeutic way for me to cope with the world around me. Ever since I was a child I felt like an alien visiting Earth and had (and still have) difficulty understanding what makes people normal. I opted to rebel against the norm through music; it was the only thing that made sense to me.”

The Burning of Rome are exactly what Arcade Fire would have sounded like if they’d come from California and been joined by a reincarnated Marc Bolan from T-Rex. Probably. Expect a lively blend of punk sensibility, electric guitar and electronica.

Check out their crazy vid for ‘Cowboys & Cut Cigars’, remixed by 80s punk legends Butthole Surfers, after the jump!

Europe is buzzing about ‘Never Played The Bass’, the infectious horn-laden song from Danish singer and songwriter Nabiha.  Having gone gold, as well as giving her a 5th consecutive top 10 airplay hit in her native Denmark, the track is set to introduce Nabiha and her fresh sound to the UK when it’s released in October.

The track uses the iconic line ‘the music don’t feel like it did, when I felt it with you’ from Womack & Womack’s smash hit ‘Teardrops’.  Nabiha co-wrote the track which recently shot to #2 on the UK Urban Chart and #3 on the UK Club Chart with remixes courtesy of Wideboys (Nelly Furtado, Labrinth), Starship and more. Best New Music: The Struts

  • 08/22/12
  • admin
  • · New releases · News

The Struts are a 4 piece indie rock band who formed in Derby in 2009. They have been described as a mix of Hard-Fi and The Arctic Monkeys but this really does them a disservice as they have a hard edge to their sound which makes them exciting.

The lads are never ones to define themselves by a specific genre – the band can best be described as an eclectic mix of music’s most heady influences; from anthemic floor stompers of 60′s and 70′s Rock n Roll to the heart-melting melodies of soul and catchy hooks of Motown classics.
Add to that mix some truly epic live shows and a lead singer with both the vocals and the moves to rival any other frontman, The Struts are definitely a band to keep your eye on…

Make up your own mind. Download for free the gutsy track ‘I Just Know’ from their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/thestruts or check out the vid after the jump!

The Cab, featuring Alex DeLeon on vocals, Alex Marshall on keys/guitar, Joey Thunder on bass, and Dave Briggs on drums, originally formed in 2005 while Marshall and DeLeon were at college. After playing a series of acclaimed local shows, their name spread rapidly around their hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada. Inspired, and with borrowed money, The Cab then headed to the dream land of California and started recording and touring in earnest.

Best New Music: Shanghai

We’ve finally found some music to accompany this atrocious weather we’ve been having of late in the UK… ‘Wet Summer’ by Danish group Shanghai. They are a duo hailing from Copenhagen in Denmark and are otherwise known as Nicolai Kornerup and Niels Brandt. They describe their sound as “Arabesque Pop” and no I didn’t make that up.

The duo have been likened to Hurts and 80s-era Bowie. They have an atmospheric and slowly building sound which strangely is in keeping with other impressive Danish exports such as TV’s ‘The Killing’ and ‘The Bridge’. Check the vid for ‘Wet Summer’ after the jump!
