Fans of dark, disquieting indie pop rejoice! Everything Everything have emerged from the studio with the follow-up to their Mercury-nominated debut ‘Man Alive’.

‘Arc’ will arrive on 14th January 2013 (keep your fingers crossed we make it through the apocalypse!), and will feature “more melodic and memorable” tunes than their first album, according to frontman Jonathan Higgs.

You can check out the video for the first single ‘Cough Cough’ after the jump, which is basically just an excuse for the boys to smack the hell out of some giant drums. The single is out 14th October.

Best New Music: The Struts

  • 08/22/12

  • · New releases · News

The Struts are a 4 piece indie rock band who formed in Derby in 2009. They have been described as a mix of Hard-Fi and The Arctic Monkeys but this really does them a disservice as they have a hard edge to their sound which makes them exciting.

The lads are never ones to define themselves by a specific genre – the band can best be described as an eclectic mix of music’s most heady influences; from anthemic floor stompers of 60′s and 70′s Rock n Roll to the heart-melting melodies of soul and catchy hooks of Motown classics.
Add to that mix some truly epic live shows and a lead singer with both the vocals and the moves to rival any other frontman, The Struts are definitely a band to keep your eye on…

Make up your own mind. Download for free the gutsy track ‘I Just Know’ from their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/thestruts or check out the vid after the jump!

  • · News

It turns out that Academy Award nominated filmmaker Spike Lee, in conjunction with the Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music, is in the final stages of post production of a Michael Jackson documentary focusing on Michael’s landmark BAD album and worldwide tour. The project marks the first ever in-depth, behind the scenes film project to chronicle a Michael Jackson album, and is being filmed amid the 25th anniversary celebration of the iconic album, record-breaking world tour and groundbreaking short films that changed music history. The documentary features over 40 interviews conducted personally by Spike Lee with Michael’s confidants, choreographers, musicians and other collaborators who collectively unveil the real story of this “coming of age” project through their vivid recollections of what it was like to work day in and day out and live this project with Michael. BAD’s lasting influence is captured through interviews with some of today’s top artists, including Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Cee Lo Green and Sheryl Crow, who was a back-up singer on the BAD tour.

Interview: Daniel Powter

We recently met with the very charming Daniel Powter to talk to him about his new album ‘Turn On The Lights’, life, food and super powers. Watch the vid above or even better read the full interview on our music pages.

Daniel Powter Interview

We arrive early and are sitting waiting for our interview slot when we hear a Canadian voice chatting politely to a member of staff. It’s Daniel. He says he is here for another week and the weather is “so hot outside”. As he walks past (taking a break between interviews) he gives us a wave and a smile on his way out into the sunshine. He continues to chat to the hotel staff who show him the way out.

A few minutes later he comes back on his own, clutching a cold drink (we can’t see what of), and he makes a joke about our shopping habit (we ‘fell’ into Topshop’s flagship store on our way to meet him!)
His PR lady comes to apologise that we are having to wait (even though we are still early). She’s very friendly and told me he’d asked if we were there to interview him. We chat to her for a few minutes about her job role and the people she’s worked with and she tells us Daniel is always upbeat despite his relentless schedule. And we can certainly vouch for that!
Needless to say, on one of Migmags first big face-to-face interviews he broke the ice nicely and we hadn’t even got started yet! This puts us at ease at the prospect of asking some of our less conventional questions.

When we meet Daniel he exudes health and happiness; he is animated as he speaks, positive in his tone and has a sparkle in his eyes. He’s also game for a laugh. But life wasn’t always so rosy for Daniel; he’s come a long way from his painfully shy childhood where bullies broke his beloved violin and from his later dependency on drugs and alcohol, and here he talks to Migmag about rehab, crazy fans, surgery, Britney and “owing it all to the Hell’s Angels”…

  • · News

Kelly Clarkson not only blew the audience away at Capital’s Summertime Ball at the weekend but it seems she’s picked herself up some admirers in the form of new band Lawson. The guys said “She is the nicest woman ever” and that they’d love to do a collaboration with her and might even have the track ready for her “To be fair, we’ve got a few tunes where Kelly would be great on!”

Kelly followed Coldplay on the bill and joked with the crowd “I’m not sure how you follow Coldplay, but thank you to those guys for opening for me – it’s not everyday you can say Coldplay opened for you.”

She then wowed the audience with performances of her new single ‘Dark Side’ as well as her top 10 hits ‘Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)’, ‘Mr Know It All’, ‘Since U Been Gone’ and the no.1 smash ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’.
